The Story Of Meditation

One of the earliest texts on meditation is the 5,000-year-old Indian tantra containing 112 meditation techniques called the "Vigyana Bhairava". The numerous meditations are all motivated to achieve self- realisation, and are all written as a series of poems. All the meditations given by the Hindu God "Shiva", are answers to a series of questions given from the Goddess "Devi", all regarding the nature of reality. To allow Devi to experience them for herself, Shiva does not give her the answers directly; instead, she teaches Devi her meditative methods and techniques in order to achieve this.

One of the earliest and most famous meditation masters is Siddhārtha Gautama. He was an Indian prince from 2,500 years ago. in order to pursue a spiritual path, he gave up his wealth, his family, his kingdom and his privileged life. After an incredible amount of effort, he became known as the " Awakened one " through meditation and practice, and later on, founded the Buddhist religion. He helped others achieve wisdom and enlightenment by teaching concentration and mindfulness. Siddhārtha encouraged love and compassion meditations for all living beings, and

taught how meditation can lead to bliss and the eventual end of human suffering as we know it.
